HOLLYWOOD – In a surprise move renowned movie director and famous recluse Terrence Malick has signed on to direct Sharknado 3, which will close the Sharknado trilogy.
The Badlands film maker told Studio Exec all about his Sharknado 3 project:
As a film maker I am coming to the end of my career. I have made some of the most significant films in American cinema history: Badlands, Days of Heaven, The Thin Red Line, The New World, To the Wonder and The Tree of Life to name but all of them. What remains? I ask myself. What remains? What? I meditated on this through the void. I perused books of German philosophy. I betook myself to the wilderness and Sharknado 3 came the answer.
The director confirmed that Tara Reid will be cast along with Rachel Weisz, Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling, Christina Hendricks, Bradley Cooper, Nick Nolte, George Clooney, Mickey Rourke, Rachel McAdams, Jennifer Lawrence and Melissa McCarthy.
‘I haven’t got her autograph yet,’ quipped Malick.
However, some film critics are arguing that perhaps with Sharknado, Malick has bitten off more than he can chew. Xavier Poulis, critic with French magazine Chapeau said:
The thing about Sharknado is that it looks like cheap exploitation bullshit, but it is actually… well, it is cheap bullshit, but after the smear that was To the Wonder it is a legitimate question to ask: can Malick rise to that level?
Sharknado 3: Glorious Shark Wonder will be released in 2015.
