REVIEW – GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2

REVIEW – GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 – Parks and Recreations goes interstellar.

I enjoyed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. It’s funny. Light. It’s like an episode of a real good comedy. One where the story doesn’t really matter that much. It tried to get a bit mushy at the end, but I don’t know what that was all about. Sylvester Stallone, Kurt Russell and David Hasselfoff are in it. So is Michael ‘Henry the Portrait of a Serial Killer’ Rooker and in one scene he reprises his early role.

Star Lord (Chris Pratt) returns with his pals Gamora, played by Zoe Saldana, Drax, played by Dave Bautista. Bradley Cooper voices Rocket. The latter get all the others into trouble for some mysterious reason called ‘plot’. Somewhere along the line Chris Pratt’s dad turns up and when we find out he lives on a planet called Ego we know things aren’t going to go smoothly.

We also have Baby Groot (Vin Diesel) who we’re supposed to adore. And for the most part we did, though it would have been better if he died in ever film like South Park: ‘Oh my God! They killed Groot!’

FIRST LOOK AT ZOE SALDANA AS TINA TURNER

HOLLYWOOD –  The first image of Zoe Saldana in her new Tina Turner biopic Tina hit the internet today.

Following her blockbusting success in Nina, Zoe Saldana returns to the world of the musical biopic with Tina, a portrait of Tina Turner. We don’t need another hero, Tina Turner once sang and her fans might well be singing ‘we don’t need another biopic’ following the news that Zoe Saldana is to star as the Nutbush City Limits singer. She met with the Studio Exec to talk about the backlash that is already greeting her casting.

We asked what she said to those who believed that Angela Bassett’s portrayal in What’s Love Got to Do With It? will remain the definitive version:

I loved doing Nina and everyone agrees that it has been one of the best movies ever to have been done about a black singer, but I also was aware there were other singers out there. So I thought Nina was great but what about Tina? You see the name rhymes!

Right.

I was thinking if there were any other black singers whose names end in -ina, but I don’t know any. Do you Exec?

No.

Sabrina, Pina. Pina was a dancer I think. It’s a pity because I really wanted to do a trilogy.

What about Tina Turner’s music?

Yeah. Whitney-ina Houston was good.

That’s not her name.

No? Well, to get back to Tina. I was very hurt by a lot of the criticism about my casting. There was so much that I put into that role and all everyone talked about was the color of my skin and the side of my goddamned nose.

How are you going to approach the new role?

Prosthetic ears.

Tina will be released in 2018.

JAMES CAMERON TALKS AVATAR SEQUELS

HOLLYWOOD – James Cameron has been talking exclusively to Studio Exec about his Avatar sequels due to start filming later this year and will – he confirmed – be filmed in 125 FPS ‘as a kind of fuck you to Peter Jackson’.

‘So the Avatar sequels?’ James Cameron leans back in his chair and says:
When we did the first film, I was really inspired by Kevin Costner’s work in Dances with Wolves. I remember seeing that film and thinking how much better it would have been if it had been in 3D, on another planet and most everyone had been blue. So when I sat down to start my script on A2 I figured let’s got to the well again.

So can you give us any details?

Well, let’s just say that we’re on Pandora again with Jake (played by Sam Worthington), but now he’s down on his luck. Neytiri (played by Zoe Saldana), on the other hand, has actually become a really famous pop star – they now have pop as part of their culture – anyways, she’s a famous pop star and ironically it turns out that Jake becomes her phantteeveezi or what we call a ‘bodyguard’.

Wow. That’s kind of similar to…

I know, I know. Isn’t it great? But everyone’ll be blue and it’ll be in 3D and on Pandora.

And there are rumours you’re prepping Avatar 3, is that true?

Yeah, we want to film them back to back for budgetary reasons. We haven’t completed the script but I already have a treatment for A3. I don’t want to give away any spoilers.

Okay but broadly?

Well, Jake’s a bit older. And he now works as a lawyer. When the Na’vi President J’ohn Fi’rld Knn’di is assassinated, Jake begins to suspect a conspiracy.

Don’t you worry Kevin Costner might sue you?

No, Kevin’s a sweet guy and dumb as a stump. Did you see Tin Cup? Sheez.

Avatars will be released in 2017.
