BARB TO GET A SPIN OFF SHOW

HOLLYWOOD – Stranger Things star Barb Holland is to get her own Netflix show.

Everyone’s favorite mum jeans wearing best friend Barb Holland is going to get her own show on Netflix. Little is known about the new series though rumor has it that it’s going to be a prequel. Shannon Purser, who plays the character in the first season of Stranger Things, was coy:

We know that Barb disappears halfway through Stranger Things but it’s never certain whether she’s actually dead or not. However, I am interested in what happens to Barb beforehand. How di Barb become Barb?

The showrunners – the Duffer brothers and Shawn Levy – won’t be overseeing this one as they are busy with the next season of the show. But don’t despair. Veteran TV genius Vince Gilligan is stepping into their shoes.

I loved the original. It really felt like a breath of eighties style fresh air. It was so original. The show reminded me of Stephen King and Spielberg and Dean Koontz novels as well. I’m going to try and put a little of the Gilligan magic in there. A sprinkle or two at least.

What do you think? Will this be a wonderful adventure in the Upside Down? Or will the show break and be bad?

Better Call Barb will show early next year.

MINECRAFT MOVIE WILL BE ‘CLOSE TO THE NOVEL’

HOLLYWOOD – Shawn Levy, the director of the new Minecraft movie, has promised fans of the property that his film will be ‘faithful to the novel’.

Shawn Levy has been tapped to direct the movie which is set to star Tom Hanks (for more on that story click here). He spoke EXCLUSIVELY to the Studio Exec:

When they asked me to sign on for the Minecraft Movie I was honored. I mean I’ve worked and I’ve produced some stuff which I can say in all honesty hasn’t been exactly high art. I mean Night at the Museum, okay, for kids perhaps, but The Internship? I mean Jesus Christ talk about an argument against allowing films to be made. So when they called I was overjoyed. At last a gritty piece of genuine art I can put my teeth into. I first read the novel in college and I was taken by it. Emile Zola has been a guiding light for me and to think I will be bringing his work to the screen is beyond words. Amazing. Oh, there! I found the word.

Emile Zola’s novel Artisinat Mine scandalised France when it was first published in 1892 with its brutal depiction of miners and the poverty they suffered, as well as the sexual freedom of their feral existence. The book was highly influential throughout the twentieth Century and even inspired a little known computer game, known as ‘Minecraft’, which will share the film’s English translation of the original French title.

Shawn Levy is painfully aware of the high stakes which he is now playing for but believes that his film will confound his critics:

Fans of Emile Zola’s work can rest easy. I am going to produce a film which is a credit to his reputation and honors his legacy. And will be at least as good as Date Night, if not slightly better.

Minecraft will be released in 2016.

STEVE MARTIN CONFIRMS CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN 3

HOLLYWOOD – It’s the news all Cheaper by the Dozen fans have been waiting for: Steve Martin has finally agreed to come on board for what promises to be very literally the concluding film in the hilarious trilogy.

The zany star was a hard man to convince according to director Shawn Levy.

Steve is an artist and as such he is dead against reprising a role only for the sake of money. His three magic words are originality, originality, originality. I needed to give him a compelling story, an intelligent and nuanced script, and moral that he could get behind. I think Cheaper By the Dozen 3 will deliver on all fronts.

Once more Martin plays Tom Baker, the wacky dad of twelve kids. Following on from what many claim to be the funniest film ever made, Cheaper By the Dozen 2, the new film sees the cast reunited with Bonnie Hunt once more in the role of Tom’s fecund wife and Hilary Duff (among others) as members of their cute brood.

“The new film is going to be dark,” Duff said. “We are catching up with the family some years down the line and things have not gone well. There have been drug overdoses, serial infidelity and several suicide attempts. And some of the older kids aren’t doing too well either.”

Cheaper By the Dozen 3 begins filming in 2017.
