HOLLYWOOD – Johnny Depp is playing the Invisible Man for a Universal reboot of the classic tale of horror and the Studio Exec has an EXCLUSIVE picture of the star in the new role.

Adding to a long list of iconic roles – Edward Scissorhands, Jack Sparrow, the kid who gets eaten by his bed in Nightmare on Elm Street – Johnny Depp is now to appear in a reboot of the Universal classic and H.G. Wells adaptation The Invisible Man. The original saw, or didn’t see, Claude Rains in the role in a classic 1933 version directed by James Whale and since then such giants as Kevin Bacon and Chevy Chase have taken on the role.

However, this version is going to be a return to the original text and is part of a move on the part of Universal to reboot its rich back catalog of horror classics with Angelina Jolie set to star in Bride of Frankenstein, Tom Cruise in a Mummy remake and Eddie Redmayne to roar into life as The Wolfman.

Johnny Depp spoke briefly with The Studio Exec about his new role:

You know I’ve always been an actor who likes to disappear into his roles, well in this instance I’ll be doing that LITERALLY. HA ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha! Oh I’ve done myself an injury.

However, the casting has been criticized by some groups claiming that the role should have gone to a genuinely invisible actor.

The Invisible Man will be released in 2017.

Nightmare on Elm Street

HOLLYWOOD – Musicals about child-killing paedophiles are few and far between, but Director Wes Craven aims to popularize this niche genre with an animated song and dance version of his horror classic A Nightmare on Elm Street.
Adapted from the screenplay of his early 80s slasher, Craven hopes his new family-friendly version of the twisted tale of teenage murder will encourage a new generation to fall in love with cuddly homicidal maniac Freddy Kruger.

Craven has been working with the Disney animators who worked on Tangled for the last three years and although the studio was at first reluctant to make the picture. As soon as Tim Rice and Elton Johncame on board, they eagerly gave the project the green light.

It’s rumoured Craven originally approached the Pixar team who are currently in the process of adapting I Spit On Your Grave, but after some useful brainstorming sessions, Wes decided the more traditional approach to animation would better suit the material.

Robert Englund will reprise his most famous role by voicing the villainous Kruger and both Heather Langenkamp and Johnny Depp have confirmed their vocal talents will also be on display.

Rice and John are thought to have completed seven of the ten tracks that will feature and with titles like ‘Boiler room Blues’‘I’m Just a Blood Stain on a Mattress’ and ‘Please Don’t Kill Me!’. It looks like there is going to be some more magical numbers added to the Disney songbook.

Disney’s A Nightmare on Elm Street is due for release Christmas 2014.

HOLLYWOOD –  Platinum Dunes – Michael Bay’s production company – have announced the beginning of pre-production on their new project Nightmare on Texas Chainsaw Street the 13th, starring Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner.

Director Alexander Aja commented:

We were getting bored of doing them all one by one so, taking our inspiration from The Avengers franchise, we wondered why not do them all together in one kind of blendered confection. Will it be bland ridiculous nonsense, a cash grab which is an insult to the imaginative originality of the original versions? D’uh, like yeah! Obviously!

Although Platinum Dunes averages out at critical ranking of only 26% on Rotten Tomatoes many believe that their films are over-rated. ‘Some people say that the remakes of Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Nightmare on Elm Street are shit,’ said horror-film critic Lewis Plainfield. ‘Whereas in point of fact, they are f*cking shit.’

The synopsis for Nightmare on Texas Chainsaw Street the 13th states simply:

A bunch of teenagers (Taylors Swift and Lautner plus the cast of Glee) are all disturbed by the same nightmare of a man called Freddy Face with chainsaws for fingers and his inbred family of mutants. In order to escape from their dreams and to have some soft core sex, they hire an RV and drive it into the woods, in the middle of the desert near suburbia in Texas. Here the RV breaks down and so they split up to cover more ground.

Nightmare on Texas Chainsaw Street the 13th is due for release in 2015 and again in 2016 and twice in 2017.
