HOLLYWOOD – Movies have been asked to please stop using John Denver as some sort of cultural touchstone.

The world is asking Movies to stop using Coloradoan guitar picker John Denver as some kind of easy way of winning semi-ironic cheese points. When Ben Wheatley referenced Annie’s Song in Free Fire, it felt like a witty throwback, but since then works by John Denver have appeared in Alien: Covenant, Baby Driver and most recently Kingsmen: The Golden Circle.

Speaking EXCLUSIVELY to the Studio Exec, the World had this to say:

At first it was kind of a nostalgic buzz. Take Me Home Country Roads, Annie’s Song and Rocky Mountain Mountain High are all great songs and the innocence of the production bespeaks happier times. But placing them in frequently gruesome or inappropriate contexts is getting old fast. Look, sure I have bigger fish to fry. My emotional weather is messed up and I’m actually melting in some places. But this is kind of getting to be a cliche and I want it to stop. If you really need to counterpoint something in a postmodern way, just pick someone else. I mean, who’s Don McLean? Chopped liver?

Ben Wheatley, Edgar Wright, Matthew Vaughn and Ridley Scott have all refused to comment.

HOLLYWOOD – Kingsman: The Secret Service and Kick Ass director Matthew Vaughn has revealed that he is currently the front contender to direct a new version of popular sci-fi adventure Flesh Gordon.

Originally released in 1974, Flesh Gordon was itself based on a comic strip called Flash Gordon and an early movie serial of the same title. The series also inspired a young George Lucas to start thinking up his own space opera story which later became Star Wars.

Matthew Vaughn is in talks with Fox and the details have yet to be worked out but Vaughn has spoken in the past for his adoration of the work:

Nowadays porn parody films are ten a penny. Some of them get released even before the original film on which they’re based are made, or in the case of 50 Shades of Grey, it’s hard to know where the porn parody ends and the real film begins. But Flesh Gordon stood tall and alone for many years as by far the best exemplar of its kind. I would love to produce something similar one of these days.

Along with Dale Ardor and Prof. Jerkoff, Flesh Gordon travels to the planet Porno which is ruled by Emperor Wang and which has been firing Sex Rays at the Earth. Here they must battle Penisauruses and Wang’s salacious daughter, as well as fight off sex mad robots and a gang of lesbians, before they can destroy the Sex Ray and return home.

Flesh Gordon will be released in 2017.

HOLLYWOOD – Having taken over the director’s chair of X-Men: Another Title, Bryan Singer has also moved into Matthew Vaughn’s Hollywood home. ‘He just turned up and started putting up his posters and unpacking his things,’ said Simon Garcia, Mr. Vaughn’s home help and handyman. ‘I thought he was the cable guy but later he told me he was the creator of House. I love that show.’
This is not the first time something like this has happened. Christopher McQuarrie recalls how Steven Soderburgh was originally slated to direct The Usual Suspects:

But on the first day of filming Bryan turns up a full half hour before Stevie Soderburgh and just starts giving orders and shooting. By the time, Soderburgh was on set we’d done five pages and the studio liked what it saw. Bryan was in.

Hugh Laurie has also complained about Mr Singer’s free for all philosophy:

First day on House he came up to my dressing room and he started eating a sandwich I’d brought from home and I was saving for lunch. I naturally complained and he turned to me and said, “What’s yours is mine and what’s mine is my own.” I thought he was joking but later that day he was wearing one of my shirts.

Mr Singer was last seen driving away in your car.
