Spinal Tap 2 Due For Release in 2022

Hollywood – A sequel to the classic 1984 rockumentary This is Spinal Tap is moving into production for a 2022 release.

Loosely based on filmmaker Marti De Bergi’s controversial 2015 memoir ‘S*it Sandwich’, the sequel will look back at the career of Spinal Tap over the previous three decades as they prepare for their farewell concert at Madison Square Gardens.

“A lot of people ask me what we’ve been doing since 1984 and I always give them the same answer, ask Siri”, said lead singer Dave St Hubbins:

We’re a working band and we’ve been working non stop but we had to stop playing the big arenas and stadiums after young Derek Smalls got a touch of the old stage fright. It’s quite a strange condition, actually, if there’s any more than 62  people in the room he starts having a panic attack so we’ve got to keep it very tight on the door when we play a venue.

Asked how Smalls will cope with the 20,000 + capacity of Madison Square Gardens, Hubbins was candid:

Well, the plan is not to tell him. You can’t see a bloody thing from the stage anyway.

Hubbins went on to say what inspired the band to make this new film:

Well, this will be our 9th and final farewell tour and we’ve always been big fans of that Scorsese movie ‘The Last Waltz’ so we phoned him and asked if he’d be interested in filming ‘The Last Rock’ so to speak, and he wasn’t interested, in fact he subsequently filled several restraining orders but this Brit director called Guy Richie said he was keen, at least I think he said that he mainly spoke in Cockney rhyming slang.

A host of the world’s top musicians and performers have lined up to perform at the event including the likes of Bob Dylan, U2, Beyonce, Kanye West, Taylor Swift, Bradley Cooper and Neil Diamond.

“The Rolling Stones wanted in on the action”, said St Hubbins.

But it’s going to be a family affair backstage and you can’t leave your Mrs alone with Mick Jagger. Or your daughter. Or any sentient life-form for that matter.

Asked why his bandmate Nigel Tufnel had been absent from any promotional interviews, Hubbins confirmed the recent rumours:

Well as you know, Nigel did a Leonard Cohen a few years back and became a full-time  Monk. Well, I say full-time he’s a Monk Monday to Friday then he comes back Friday night, gets lashed until Sunday night then he’s back to the monastery early Monday for kippers and prayer.
