HOLLYWOOD – The long-awaited TV adaptation of the popular podcast, Serial, is finally moving into pre-production after Amazon pipped Netflix for the rights to broadcast the show.
“We’re very excited about adding Serial to our 2016 line-up,” said Amazon spokesperson, Liz Shan.
The huge success of the podcast was a game-changer and we know there are a lot of fans who will be worried about a visual adaptation. I can assure those fans now that they won’t be disappointed. We have the most talented people in the industry working on the show and all of them are determined to retain the spirit of the original.
Hunger Games star, Josh Hutcherson has snagged the lead role of Adnan Syed and John Boyega, who we’ll soon see playing a Stormtrooper in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, is set to play the role of the infamous Jay Wilds. Joining the dynamic duo will be host of other big names including Selena Gomez, Lea Michele and Demi Moore who will take on the Serial host, Sarah Koening.
Despite Amazon’s insistence that fans will be happy with their adaptation, The Studio Exec has learnt that the case will be solved in the final episode and a different crime will be the subject of Season 2.
“We’ve learnt a lot from the success of True Detective,” said a studio insider.
Everyone was waiting some big, surprise reveal and it ended up being some random psycho in dirty overalls. It doesn’t matter how crappy your resolution is as long as you have a resolution. The audience can’t handle the alternative, it makes them think too much and wet the bed.
Serial is due for release on Amazon in 2016.
