SAMUEL L. JACKSON TO PLAY SAINT PATRICK
HOLLYWOOD – Joe Carnahan has confirmed that Samuel L. Jackson will take the lead role in his long-awaited Saint Patrick biopic.
Set in the modern day, Pat Trick (Jackson) is an MI5 agent guarding an IRA informant, Shem Rock, on a plane from London to Dublin so he can testify against his former boss:
“We took the St. Patrick legend, digested it and then stuck our fingers down our throats and vomited it out. What we had left was a lumpy orange porridge that contained the mulched remnants of the original story and after we’d sifted through it with our fingers, we decided to get a load of snakes and put them on a plane,” said Carnahan.
Although the tale of St. Patrick banishing snakes from Ireland is over a thousand years old, some commentators have cynically suggested Carnahan is ripping off David R. Ellis’ 2006 movie Snakes on a Plane.
“That’s horseshit,” said Carnahan:
Yes there will be snakes and yes, those snakes will be on a plane but that’s where the similarity ends. It’s purely a coincidence that Sam Jackson is the lead in both movies; to be honest, I wanted Denzel Washington but he was already committed to playing the lead in Ridley Scott’s Naked Gun remake.
Carnahan went on to confirm rumours of a Harrison Ford cameo:
When Harrison appears on screen dressed in his Indiana Jones costume and says ‘Snakes. Why did it have to be motherf*cking snakes?’ the audience is going to s*it their pants.
St Patrick is due for release in 2016
