ROBERT RODRIGUEZ TO DIRECT SEARCHING FOR SUGAR MAN 2: THE REVENGE
Searching for Sugar Man 2: The Revenge takes place two years after the original documentary. Sixto is back on top and playing to sell out crowds but he still can’t forget about being dropped from his record label and the subsequent decades of obscurity and rejection. So one night his mind snaps and he loads his guitar case with guns and sets off to reek bloody revenge on the music industry.
My first and only choice was Lou Diamond Phillips. In fact if Lou had declined I probably would have scrapped the entire project but I really had to fight for him. Miramax wanted me to go with either Denzel Washington or Josh Brolin but in the end they relented as long as I agreed never to make another Spy Kids movie.
Al Pacino will reprise his role as Phil Spector and I just got off the phone with Paul McCartney who has agreed to play himself. I’m really pleased Paul is on board because the scene I wrote with him in mind could be the most stomach churning death in cinematic history. I mean seriously, I was vomiting so much while I was writing it my wife had to tie a bib around my neck.
