PARIS -The Jacques Audiard French language crime drama A Prophet is finally going to get a proper US remake, with Len Wiseman directing and Colin Farrell in the role which made Tahar Rahim a star of European cinema.
Toby Jaffe – who worked before with Farrell and Wiseman on the Total Recall excrescence – said that ‘it’s exciting times.’
The original is a gritty classic, which spans the genres of prison drama and gangsters and charts the career of a rising criminal. It’s subtle and complex, but there are very few explosions from which the hero walks away without turning around or even blinking. So, as you can see, plenty of room for improvement.
The film will be produced under the Original Film banner (I shit you not) and distributed by Sony. Original Film’s previous slate include credits for the 21 Jump Street remake, the Total Recall remake and The Fast and Furious sequels.
