HBO ANNOUNCE ROBERT DOWNEY JR. IN WEDGER
HOLLYWOOD – Following the massive success of True Detective, HBO have announced a new gritty crime drama set in New York and starring Robert Downey Jr. in the titular role of Wedger.
We got a chance to catch up with the Iron Man (as he prefers to be known) and ask him about the new show.
It is going to be a high quality show with high production values that we’ve come to expect from HBO. It will be dark. Really dark. Perhaps the darkest thing I’ve ever done. And Paul Verhoeven is directing the pilot.
Can you tell us a bit about the story?
Sure. Wedger – no first name and we never find out – is ex-NSA, ex-Blacks Ops and ex-Green Beret. He’s a recovering alcoholic, a practicing drug user and a so-so sex addict. His wife (Mia Sara) is at first understanding but they tend to argue. Every episode he meets his New York police captain friend (played by Jeff Daniels) who asks for his help on any crimes that require an expert knowledge on wedges. 99% of the time they have nothing to talk about at the Tits n’ Ass n’ Exposition strip club where they meet.
Yeah. However this one time there turns out to be serial killer whose weapon of choice is the deployment of razor lined wedgies, you see? And although there are some arguments – [does a gruff New York accent] ‘I said wedges, captain, not wedgies’ – I agree to help the police. However, there are some in the department who remember my record and how I was court-martialed for wedgying a four star general who I thought was a double agent in Cambodia in ’73.
Yeah. It’s going to be gritty and violent, incredibly gory once the Wedgier attacks. And yes, you will see my ass and my cock.
Wedger will broadcast on HBO in the Spring.
