HOLLYWOOD – Colin O’Donoghue is to play Pennywise the Clown in the latest version of Stephen King’s classic horror, IT.
It’s my dream role, said O’Donogue.
I was fascinated by the Tim Curry version as a child. I had pictures of him on my bedroom wall and I even made my mother sew his image onto all of my clothes. At the weekends I used to hang around in sewer pipes dressed in a clown costume. My parents took me to see the school councillor because they were worried I was too obsessed but she said as long I was not sniffing glue or smoking, they shouldn’t worry and I’d eventually grow out of it.
Asked how fans of Once Upon a Time would react to him playing such a notorious monster, O’Donogue laughed:
The fans are great and I’m sure they’ll understand. I love playing Captain Hook but the clock is ticking and sooner or later, I’m going to be eaten by a crocodile.
O’Donogue went on to say that although his obsession has waned, he still dusts off the old costume on special occasions:
Just last week I was on a date and I thought it would be funny if I went dressed as Pennywise but the evening didn’t go so well. Not because of the costume, she thought it was great but unfortunately she told me she had just decided to become a Lesbian and was moving to the Yemen. It was a shame, she only stayed for a few minutes but in that time, I’d grown quite fond of her.
The remake of ‘IT’ is due for release in 2016
